Sir, —I do not wish to be a Job's comforter, but I thought it might interest the people of Auckland to recall the following remark by John Kidd, of ■" Lorna Doone": "The fifteenth day of last July was very hot and sultry, long after the time of sundown; and I was paying heed to it, because of the old saying that if it rain then, rain will fall on forty days thereafter."
