THEFT CHARGE FOLLOWS SMALL SLIM INVOLVED [from OUR O'.VN correspondent] HAMILTON, Monday A charge of theft was preferred ngninst n former railway porter, Noel Archibald Holdaway, a married man, in the Police Court at Hamilton to-dav. Thb acciisorl admitted the theft of 5s 2d, the property of the Railway Department. Detective White said that accused had signed a statement, in which he admitted that when he made a mistake in assessing the freight of a parcel, lie deducted the shortage from the next freight he handled and falsified the documents accordingly. Seven consignment notes, extending over a period of three months, were thus falsified. The accused adopted this course in order to save himself from having to reimburse the department for shortages due to bona fide mistakes. Accused had lost his position. Mr. King, counsel for accused, said that Holduway was a man of good character. The accused was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within six mouths,
