RELIGIOUS STRIFE
| POSITION IN IRELAND MR. DE VALERA'S COMMENT IDEALS OF COUNTRYMEN By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received July 26, 5.25 p.m.) DUBLIN. July 25 " Religion is being used to cloak mean and shabby things," said Mr. de Valera in the Dail, referring to " unfortunate happenings in another part of the country." The citizens of Ireland are only too anxiouu to live in peace and friendship," added Mr. de Valera. " The foreign Power which created this situation by refusing to allow the people to settle their own differences cannot escape responsibility. " I deplore the recent reprisals in the Free State. The Government will see that as far as possible the guilty, who have shamed the Free State, are treated wit-h the full vigour of the law. " I hoped the misguided people 6f Ulster still realise that they are being exploited politically. Then the Irishmen's ideal of living together as Irishmen in their own land will soon be fulfilled."
