DARING PRISON BREAK
ESCAPE FROM GLASGOW GAOL Because of his desire to visit a girl, an arrested man, Clarence Stanley Cartwright, turned a pair of scissors into a spanner, and broke out of prison. When he appeared before the Sheriff at Glasgow subsequently, Cartwright pleaded guilty to an indictment embracing five charges, and it was stated that at the time of his escape ho took throe other prisoners with him. Cartwright, stated the deputy-fiscal, hired a car at Birmingham to take him to Stirling, and then ho drove to Aberdeen. There he was arrested and taken back to Stirling in the company of three other men. " By somo means," added the prosecutor, "ho made a pair of scissors into* a spanner, and took tho lock off a prison door. He then walked out with tho throe other men." On behalf of Cartwright it was stated that lie wanted to visit a girl in Aberdeen, and this led to the escapade and tho charges against him. Cartwright was sentenced to six months' imprisonment.
