NOVEL COURT EXCUSE

A defendant who appeared before Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., in the Wanganui Magistrate s Court regarding a eiaim for arrears of rent, explained that he had not paid his rent because the stove in the kitchen smoked. The house, he said, was not fit to live in. " You have a remedy," commented the magistrate. " Why don't you shift to another houser You are paying only 5s a week rent.
