RAINFALL IN JULY
NEW AUCKLAND RECORD OVER 9.591 N. REGISTERED WINTRY CONDITIONS CONTINUE Th is month has been the wettest July on record. Up to 9 a.m. yesterday, a total of 9.58:n. had been recorded for the month at the Albert Park gauge, and, with showers later in the morning and in the evening, the fall exceeded the previous record for July of 9.59 in., registered in 1917. Previous to that year, the heaviest falls recorded were *g.;oin. in IS9G, 9.1 iin. in 1901. and 8.21 in. in 1916. The average fall for July is 4.95 in. An indication of the intensity of the rainfall this month is shown in the fact that while rain feli on 27 days last month, the total was only 6.90 in.. compared with the fall of orer 9.59 in. to date this month, during which rain has fallen on 15 days. No very heavy falls were experienced in June, scattered showers being the general rule. In July last year, 5.97 m. was recorded, the respective totals for 1933 and 193-1 being 4.03 and 4.0? Cold, wintry conditions prevailed in the city yesterday, although no rain fell in the afternoon. The wind was from the south-west. The lainfall for 24 hours up to midnight, as recorded by the Hkbat.d gauge was .10in. After falling to 29.30 in. on Thursday afternoon, the barometer began to rise, a tendency which continued yesterday, the reading at midnight being 29.70 in.
