"GOOD MORNING, LITTLE FOLK!"

How Do You Like Your Page? \

DEAR LITTLE FRIENDS with any of the following names:— Dora or Flora, Molly or Polly, Bertie or Gertie, Avis or Mavis, Ronald or Donald, Claude or Maude, Dickie or Mickie, Shirley or Girlie, Betty or Letty, Eileen or (dear me, I nearly wroto "Pieleen!" 1 think I'll have to leave off making rhymes 1) Thelma or Margaret, Joyce or Betty, Peggy or Dawn, Juno or Mary, Thelma or Elsie, Jean or Joa.i, Denis or Dickie—oh dear, dearl What a terrible lot of names to remember, when I think of all my little friends 1 And I haven't put down half or a quarter of them even now, so I'll just have to think them instead, or the printer will come hurrying down the stairs and say severely: "This letter is EVER SO MUCH TOO LONG! You'll have to CHOP THESE CHILDREN RIGHT OUT!" And that would be too dreadful to think of, seeing this is the little folk's own special page! And by the way, talking of pussy cats —oh no, it wasn't pussies, it was printers, but they both begin with a "p," anyway—well, I want to toll you tho funniest story I heard this week about a large black puss that belonged to a friend of mine. It was her little sister's birthday, and she had made her the most lovely birthday cake, ever such a big one, as big round as your very biggest dinner plate, and when it was baked she iced it and she put it on a shelf in the pantry for the icing to set. Next morning she went to take it out, and goodness me, tho fright she got! There was that black cat curled up right on top of the cake, candles and all! She gave a loud scream, and tho fright she got was nothing to tho ono that naughty old cat got as she chased him out of tho kitchen with a broom! And what a sight he was, with the icing all sticking to his fur, and, of courso, tho icing had set, and ho had to lick and lick and keep on licking all the morning till his tongue must have ached all over. So if any of you are going to have a birthday party soon, DO be suro and see that the pantry door is shut, or the same sad fate may befall your own nice birthday cake, because cats are really the queerest things, 'specially black cats, and they will go to sleep on your daddy's best hat, or on the baby's chest, or in the clothes' cupboard, or anywhere at all, so long as they can snuggle into a tight, round ball and go to sleep. Now, if you have got this far, you can just read a few lines more, then read the lovely stories and look at tho pictures in our page to-day, and when you have read it I want you to write and tell me what you think of it, just a little letter written ALL BY YOURSELF, saying what you like best in it, and then perhaps you will win one of theso nice prizes: Box of paints, Jack and Jill Picture Book, Pictures for Me book, Our Pets Drawing Book, with crayons, Tea for Three dolly teaset, set draughts, set ping pong, box plasticine, pencil case, box blocks, a skipping rope, or a celluloid baby boy doll. Now, isn't that a wonderful list? And oh, I nearly forgot! There will bo a painting competition too, such a lovely one, and—goodness! Here's tho printer man! Ho \,avs in a loud voice: " I WANT THAT LETTER AT A , //, ONCE! THIS VERY _ //IfXrfV*** MINUTE!!!" So good-bye to you all, dear little folk, and lots of love to you all from f —"* Your friend P.S. —Be suro you say which prizo you would like from the list, and don't forget to give your ago!
