SOUTH AFRICAN TEAM DURHAM'S POOR SCORE LONDON, July 17 In a two days' match at Sunderland against Durham.- fourth in last summer's second-class competition, the county batted first against the South Africans to-day and was dismissed for 45 runs. Vincent took four wickets for 12 runs, Langton four for 14 and Bell one for 16. The South Africans replied with 206 for eight pickets (Viljoen 85). It. E. S. W yatt has been appointed captain of England for the fourth test match against the South Africans, at Manchester, on July 27. The newspapers criticise the reappointment of \\j ratt. The Daily Mail deplores his "safety first" tactics. MATCH AT LORD'S GENTLEMEN V. PLAYERS LONDON. July 37 In a cricket match Gentlemen v. Players, at Lord's, the Gentlemen made 218 runs (Wyatt 53, Ilrown 53 not out) in their first innings. The professionals have lost four wickets for 135.
