"A RUNAWAY GIRL"

A BRIGHT PRODUCTION One of the most popular productions ever presented by the Auckland Amateur Operatic Society, "A Runaway Girl " will bo staged at His Majesty's Theatre to-night. Tho music, by Lionel Monckton and Ivan Carvll, possesses much of the romantic freshness which distinguishes that of Sullivan. and adds much to the charm given to the piece by the colourful settings and the romantic theme. The production is superbly mounted with bright costumes and scenery, and moves with a swing and sparkling humour. Excellently cast, it owes much of its success to the talented performance of Miss Doreen Saunders, whose delightful vocal items have been very well received. Miss Iteta MacCullay also gives a vivacious performance with Mr. Ernest Snell in other leading singing and dramatic roles. Others showing real ability are Miss Ethel Itae, Mr. Zantc Wood, Mr. G. Col ledge, Mr. Douglas Stark. Miss Antouia Martinengo, Mr. litib Fenwiek, Mr. Ilex Yates and Miss Sybil Phillipps, As is usual with the society's productions, the chorus singing is particularly good, both in volume and balance, and is a credit to the music director, Mr. Colin Muston. The ballets, produced by Miss Cecil Hall, and with Miss Joyce Wright as solo artist, are also excellent. The producer is Major F. H. Lam pen.
