LAND SETTLEMENT
AUCKLAND BOARD'S PLAN SELECTION OF BOYS [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] HAMILTON, Thursday The Auckland Youtha' Farm Settlement Board's scheme for the establishment of 25 boys on their own farms was advanced at Ruakura to-day, when members of the board, Sir Joseph Smith and Messrs. W. Slaughter and N. G. Gribble, examined tho 29 boys who have been undergoing a period of training at the farm. The boys were taken before the board singly and were questioned, and the reports of the instructors respecting each boy were considered. A selection of the best boys who have taken part in the course will be made. The basis of the scheme is that the boys during a period of five years' practical experience under competent employers will contribute 20 per cent of their earnings to a savings bank account and the Government will over a period of five years contribute about £2OO a boy. This amount it is intended at the end of the period to invest in some suitable, approved farm proposition, which may be of any type suitable to the boy and satisfactory to the board.
