OPOTIKI AFFAIRS

HOSPITAL REPRESENTATIVE BOWLING CLUB'S LEASE [by TELEGRAPH —OWN- correspondent] OPOTIKT. Wednesday The Opotiki Borough Council last night appointed Mr. S. Shalfoon borough representative on the Opotiki Hospital Board, in place of Mr. G. S Moody, who was elected the representative of a county riding. The Opotiki Bowling Club wrote to the council asking for a lease for 21 years of the borough section on which its green is laid down. Mr. S. Shalfoon objected on the ground that the lease could not be for more than 12 months as the ciub was not properly constituted and that the council would not know to whom it was making the lease. The letter was referred to the Finance Committee to deal with and report back to the council. The Finance Committee, reporting on an application for a refund of rates by the Mayor, Mr. G. S. Moody, which it had refused, stated that the M<'i vor had decided to appeal to a rasgistrate, and if tho case was won by him he would not press for costs agiinst the council.
