MARKING FIRE-PLUGS

DIFFICULTY IN OUTER AREA REPORT BY SUPERINTENDENT Difficulty experienced in keeping fireplugs in the outer districts marked and cleaned, owing to the large area to be covered, was mentioned by the superintendent, Mr. W. L. Wilson, in a report received at a meeting of the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board yesterday. Mr. Wilson said that to relieve the position he interviewed the Mayor and town clerk of Onehunga and placed the position before them, drawing their attention to section 62 of the Municipal Corporations Act, in which provision was made for keeping fire pings in effective order. They had, as a result, agreed to put on a man to clean and mark fire plugs in their district. "It may be necessary for me to take similar action with other local authorities, and # I Mould ask the board's permission to proceed should the occasion arise," Mr. Wilson concluded. His report also mentioned that 1607 plugs had been cleaned and marked where necessary. The report was adopted, and the superintendent authorised to approach local bodies where he thought fit.
