THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE IMPROVEMENT IN GAS An improvement in Auckland Cas shares, which had been weak for some time, occurred'on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. Business was steady, although the turnover was not quite as large as on the previous day. Offers for Government loans were easier and holders operated sparingly. The 1949 4 per cent stock was done 5s better at £lO9, while 1910 bonds and 3916 and 1955 stock issues were traded at current prices. The principal movement in banks was a rise of 3d in Commercials of Australia, which, had sale at 15s Bd. A similar gain was made by English, Scottish and Australians on sale at £5 Is 9d. Reserve Banks eased 3d to sell at £6 9s 3d. The insurance market was quiet, business being confined to Nationals, unchanged, at 20s 6d. An increase of Gd was registered by Auckland Gas in two sales at 2<s. Inquiry was maintained at the same figure," with holders quoting 3d higher. New Zealand Breweries also were firmer, two parcels being transferred at 52s 6d, a rise of 3d. a
