SCHOOL COMMITTEES

ASSOCIATION'S YEAR - ELECTION OF OFFICERS Marked progress in all activities was shown in the annual report of the Auckland School Committee*' Association presented at a meeting held last night. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £2l. The quarterly meetings of the association had been well attended, one of the most important matters accomplished being the preparation of a petition to Parliament urging amendment of the law to permit the entry of five-year-old children to the schools. Several important matters concerning dental clinics had been discussed and a remit carried that the clinics should be relieved of the annual levy of £3O. Appreciation of the long services of Mr. W. Dixon as secretary and treasurer was expressed and, and his resignation was accepted with regret. A motion was passed expressing appreciation of the work done by ■ the retiring president. Mr. W. W. Murray. The following officers were elected: — President, Mr. W. H. Fortune; vicepresident, Mr F. P&ce; secretary and treasurer, Major A. T. Dow; editor of journal, Major A. T. Dow; business manager of journal, Mr. C. S. Morris; executive, Mesdames F. Mcßride and R M. Mountjoy, Messrs. A. Roberts, A. L. Spence, A. 13 Carmiehael and A. A. Buckley; honorary auditor, Mr. L. C. H. Dawson; honorary solicitor, Mr. J. F W. Dickson. Major A. T. Dow and Mr. W. H. Fortune were appointed the association's representatives at the annual meeting of the Dominion Federation of School Committees' Associations at Palmerston North in August.
