PROPOSED NEW HIGHWAY
SURVEY OF ROUTE Good progress is being made by the Public Works Department with the survey of the proposed route for a main highway through the Makerua Plains in order to eliminate the country between Shannon and Palmer ston North. In some circles there is n desire that this route should be the main one, but it is pointed out that it would always be at the mercy of the river-banking scheme along the Manawatu. The Horowhenua County Council favours adhering to the established road through Tokomarn and Linton, and has applied for a subsidy to carry the tar sealing as far as the northern boundary of the county at Tokomaru.
