CONDITIONS IMPROVING SOME RAIN STfl-L PROBABLE The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, 'as follows: —The recent depression is now locnted east of New Zealand and an anti-cyclone covers eastern Australia and the western Tasinnn Sea. Pressure however, is already fnllinp; again over Tasmania. The indications are for south-westerly to south-easterly winds moderate to strong generally but reaching gale force on parts of the east coast and in the Cook Strait area, moderating later in the south. Seas rough north of Farewe-1 Spit and south of East Cape, elsewhere moderate. Jn the eastern Ta sin an Sea, strong southerly winds and rough seas, later moderating. The weather should be fine in western districts from Taranaki southward, elsewhere changeable with rain at times, but improving soon. Temperatures cold, with some frosts inland.
SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST COLD AND CHANGEABLE The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Moderate to strong southwesterly winds. The weather is likely to be cold and changeable with occasional showers. -Seas rough on the west coast and moderate on the east coast.
YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —There was a continuation of cloudy and unsettled weather and a moderate westerly wind yesterday. A very heavy ra'n shower was experienced at mid-dav, but afterwards the conditions improved. After being steady at 29.25 in. for six hours, the barometer commenced rising early in the afternoon. The thermometer registered 56 degrees at 4 p.m. Barometer, midnight, rising .. 29.45 in. Midnight, Tuesday .. .. 29.35 in. Wellington.—The weather was cool and for the most part cloudy and threatening yesterday." A southerly breeze prevailed and freshened during the afternoon when a few light showers fell. The minimum temperature on Tuesday night was 44.9 degrees. The maximum yesterday was 50.7 degrees.
Christclmrch. —The weather yesterday was heavily overcast with constant rain and a strong south-west breeze. The maximum temperature was 49.8 degrees. The barometer, after rising, was steady last evening at 29.75 in. Dunedin.—Wintry weather was again experienced yesterday. Heavy rain fell during the early part of the morning, but the fall was lighter during the remainder of the day. The total rainfall from midnight on Tuesday until 4 p.m. yesterday was 2.88 in. A moderate south-west- wind prevailed and the maximum temperature was 45 degrees, and the minimum 35 degrees. The barometer rose several points and registered 29.60 in. in the afternoon.
