GOLDEN CROWN YEAR A loss of £1247 is disclosed in the first annual accounts of the Golden Crown Gold Mining Company (>.O Liability), which is operating at Komata, near Paeroa. Paid capital is shown at £1125. The report states that in the Golden Crown level a block of highly-payable ore had been opened up, the average assay value being £25 16s 3d a ton. A trial crushing of one ton of ore from the footwall portion of the reef in the Smithy level realised £43 18s lid' The battery building and some machinery had been completed and other plant was in position. All men underground were concentrated on repairing and completing the ore passes to enable ore to pass to the lower level. When this was completed the mine would be ready to commence production. During the year Mr. Collins retired from the directorate, and Mr. J. B. Donald was appointed. The retiring directors, Messrs. A. A. Adams and T. R. Sussex, offer themselves for re-election.
REPORTS OF MANAGERS Talisman-Dubbo (Karangahake).— Dubbo level: The average assay value of the ore from the slopes extending from 215 ft. north to 400 ft. north was fair; width, 22in. The drive north was advanced 6ft., total 646 ft. The reef is 12in. wide and the average value good. Talisman No. 1 level: The average value of the ore from the stopes from 420 ft. south to 500 ft. south was verv good; width. 30in. The stope from 230 ft. south to 290 ft. south produced ore of very fair value; width, 30in. Drive south: The lode from 493 ft. south to 560 ft. south is irregular and somewhat disturbed. There is lode formation along the drive, but the bands of quartz are not continuous. Talisman No. 2 level: The drive south advanced through country 20ft., total 187 ft. on the eastern side of the old Talisman stopes. Dawn of Hope (Thames) .—The crosscut to intersect the hangingwall reefs has been advanced 6ffc. The vein we have been following with this crosscut now appears to be the Moanataiari cross reef and will join the other reefs. The winze on the reef has been sunk sft., and the ore continues to show strong blotches and colours of gold. Sarieh and mate, tributers in the mine, crushed two loads for lOoz. of gold.
