BADMINTON COMMENTS
INTER-CLUB COMPETITIONS The A grade inter-dub matches played last week between Parti el! and Olympic and Central and Kemuera but in 1 acc '" rdanco with accepted form, tairnl T leitl,er „ case did the winning teams gne really convincing displays Parnell won all its matches against of tn th ® ? omblliatio » of most to b" deS m "" Mt " Eo ° ll <lral
A pleasing exception was tho perfect nndei standing displayed by Miss K Waters and 1. Kllctt. Miss Waters is one ot the best combined doubles exponents in Auckland and is one of the ItZrl P ?' erS U ' ho real, -V 'nulerstands the net game. Kllott is playing his drop shots as accurately as ever, but is still inclined to neglect the smash.
Southon and Miss Ellett have been soon to better advantage and were frequently caught out of position. Southon mixed good and bad play and at times showed his best form, smashing aggiesshely to score points from almost any part of the court. Miss l'Jlctfc was strong; in attack, but allowed herself to be caught at the back oi the court too often when a short return invariably provoked a winnintr smash.
ii. Martin has not yet reached his best form, but his overhead work is very fine and is a prolific point winner. Anderson, an ex-northern player, is an undoubted acquisition and shows good ability both m his smashing and in close work at the net.
For Olympic Dallimore and Speed played particularly well and only one point separated them irom victory against Anderson and Southon, while Mrs. Col lodge was outstanding among the Olympic ladies and showed to advantage in both her matches. The other members of the team all played well, although obviously nervous in tho initial stages, and before tho close of the season considerably bettor results should be gained. 1 lie Parnell Club has a number of promising beginners who are benefiting from coaching by V. N. Langguth. an enthusiastic and experienced badminton player. Those who are showing special promise are Miss Joan lnwood and Soi is tor and Williams. Remuera players in their own hall made quite a good showing against the Central representatives, who played steady but uninspired badminton. For Romuera Dr. Spencer, Adams and Misses A. Harrisson and T. Brodie were particularly noticeable in well-played games. In the combined doubles Adams and Miss A. Harrisson did particularly well to beat A. Weir and Miss M. Smith, whilo M. T. Wilson and Miss Mary Wade were fully exteuded by Dr. Spencer and Miss Brodio.
