COCK PHEASANT SHOT
MAORI WITHOUT L'CENCE FINE OF £5 IMPOSED [by TELEGRAFH OWN correspondent] TE KUITI. Tuesday A charge of shooting a cock pheasant without being the holder of a licence was brought against John Joseph, a Maori, by Mr. W. Dobson, Acclimatisation Society inspector, in the Magistrate's Court. The defendant pleaded guilty. He said he had been given permission to shoot over the property by a Mr. Graham Anderson, but the inspector stated that defendant could produce no authority in writing. A conviction was entered, and defendant was fined £5 and ordered to pay £1 5s 6d costs. Three months was allowed in which to pay the fine.
