Olson, 'ivh:.ngarci, Mrs. F. Weight,' Waingaro, and Miss R. Gibbs, Christchurch, are at the Station Hotel. Mrs. E. M. Doull (Auckland), will be in Edinburgh to attend the meetings of the Church of Scotland, wrote our London correspondent on May IS. On their conclusion she will spend a short time touring in that country. Now Zealand should be reached before Christmas.

A meeting of the Mothers' Thought Guild was held last week. The president, Mrs. G. E. Hemus, welcomed Mrs. Hugh Kasper, who gave a short, address on character building and stressed the need for mothers and teachers to realise the great responsibility they shared in moulding the character of the child.

The annual fancy-dress ball of the Te Awamutu District High School, held on Friday evening, was very largely attended. The large number of pretty and varied costumes made a most spectacular function. Music was provided by the Municipal Band and Dalton's Orchestra, and after the juveniles had danced for a couple of hours the hall was handed over to the adults.

There was a very large gathering of settlers and children in the Papamoa School grounds 011 Friday afternoon to farewell the, head teacher, Miss Faith Bennett, who is. shortly to be married. .Hr. Colin McNaughton, on behalf of the settlers, presented Miss Bennett with a cheque. On behalf of the school children, Phyllis Cosgrove handed Miss Bennett a silver pla-te and bread board. Afternoon'tea was served.

Miss E. Johnson (Gisborne), is staying with an aunt in Cambridge, where she is having a most enjoyable time with a round of interesting excursions and dances, wrote our London correspondent on May 18. She was in London last week for the Jubilee celebrations. Miss Johnson was present at the Newmarket Meeting, awl she has also attended some of the other popular in various parts of the country.

The Remuera-Newmarket branch of the Auckland Methodist Women's Missionary Auxiliary held its annual box jmd mission afternoon on Thursday. Mrs. J. H. Carr presided and opened the meeting with helpful readings. Besides gifts of money, many useful parcels were received for the Solomon Islands. The speaker, Sister Rita, gave an account of some of the work carried on by the Airedale Street Mission.

A social evening was held in the Hairini Hall by settlers and old friends for Miss Mavis Collison and Mr. Owen Pajne, who are shortly to be married. Dancing and vocal items were enjoyed. On behalf of the gathering, Mr. G. W. Glasson presented the two guests of honour with a large number of gifts. Another speaker was Mr. A. E. Spiers and on behalf of the lawn tennis and table tennis clubs, Mr. G. S. Hall and Mr. W. Hodgson presented Miss Collison with a crystal salad bowl and silver service, and Mr. Owen Payne with a tie box. Items were given by Miss Hazel Flay, Mrs. Hooper, Mrs. Pepperell and members of the Hairini Glee Club. Mr. T. W. Dibble directed the programme.
