RANDWICK MEETING GREENSEA'S FINE VICTORY SUCCESS OF FIRST BALLOON (Received June 9, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 9 The Australian Jockey Club's winter meeting was concluded at Randwick yesterday in fine weather and on a fair track. Greensea received an ovation for winning the Second Hurdles under the steadier of 13.8. He registered a very game performance to win by a length and a-quarter. The New Zealand-bred filly Capris was second in the Botany Handicap, and Scratchmere Scar, also bred in the Dominion, was third in the Winter Plate. After Money was second in the Exeter Handicap, Money Spi was tinplaced in the Nursery Handicap, and Two No Trumps was ' second in the second division of the Novice Handicap. Results: —

MOONEE VALLEY EVENTS TAKAKUA FINISHES THIRD (Received June 9, 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, June 9 At the Moonee Valley races yesterday Takakua was third in the Compensation Handicap, in which there were six starters, including Melisande. Shining Gold was third in the Northwood Welter, in which fourteen started, including Metro. Epigram and First Money were unplaced in the Phoenix Handicap. TRACK WORK AT EPSOM AUTO MACHINE WELL KEWPIE'S TRIUMPH'S TASK BY ABAYDOS As the cinders track at Epsom was a little holding on Saturday morning, fast times were out of the question, but interesting work was done by a number of horses engaged at the Auckland Winter Meeting. The chief performers were Auto Machine, Kewpie's Triumph, Kewpie's Guy, Wiriwhata and Mountain Sun.

Going flie reverse waj round. Auto Machine (A. Brown) ran a mile and threequarters, being assisted over the last mile and a-half by Elthorpe (P. galloping, in 3.36. Auto Machine was always going smartly and covered the last mile in 2.20, each half in 1.10. A few sharp runs should see him well forward for his engagement B.

Kewpie's Triumph (K. 'Bell) went away from the two miles disc and, after traversing half a mile in lazy fashion, waa joined by Kewpie's Guy {\V. Gee), the pace then being increased. Kewpie's Triumph reached the mile in 2.33. Five furlongs from home Kewpie's Guy forced the pace, but he was with h-er again at the quarter post and they finished together, his time for the two miles being -1.53, the last half in 1.9. For this section Kewpie's Guy took 1.9 3-5. She has had an easy time since the Hamilton meeting and lias freshened up nicely. Mountain Sun (W. Fleming) covered three circuits, the last mile and a-quarter in 3.5. and the tinal half in 1.11 3-5. He did not attempt to put a foot wrong.

Nelson de Oro (G. Phipps) was allotted strong work and hit He appears to have derived some benefit from his races at Hamilton, where he showed a glimpse of form.

War Girl (C. Nixon), free-legged, worked over two miles, showing a good turn of speed over the last few furlongs. She is assuming racing shape. Kewpie's King C\V. Geel, and Kewpie's Crest (K. Bell) traversed three laps, the last mile and a-quartcr being run at a 2.30 gait.

Mountain Flight (A. R. Saunders) and Silver Watch (L. J. Mahoney) did three circuits, the last mile and in 3.12 and the last half in 1.12 3-5. Young Rodney (G. Bodman) trotted steadily over two miles and when Bprint«d along the back on two occasions hit out resolutely.

'Wee Machine (C. Smith), free-legged, was allowed to bowl along over a couple of laps He is coming along well in his preparation. Autumn Lou (G. H. Stubbs), Wiriwhatn (W. G. Stephens) and Cherrill (L. .7 Mil honey\ wont away from the mile and ahalf post, in the order named and. after waiting on the trotters until reaching the straight the last time, Chcrrill sprinted fast to beat them home 111 3.40. She did her work neatly and showed a good turn of speed when given her head. Autumn Lou did not negotiate the turns too well. "Wiriwhata trotted soundly. Chartcris Bay (A. Cole) worked a steady mile and ihen sprinted a few furlongs. He will not. lack condition when bo comes to fulfil his Hobson Handicap engagement. Arabond (C. F. Gieson) was given n few sharp sprints and acquitted himself creditably. He is carrying a good deal of condition nnd has not been overtaxed since working at the trotting gait. He will bc> given another chance to raco in horples this month. Tinokahn (G. Paton) executed solid work over three rounds, going fast when sprinted along the back a couple of times. He has built up well as the result of recent racing. A. W. Brougliton's pair. Nimbus and I\ed Hope, were let ofT wi£h strong work on the sand.

P Morrison gave Worthy Nor a light task and she did not show any sign of the soreness which put her off the scene for a few days.

SALE OF MATORNI

GOING TO TASMANIA

The four-year-old horse Matorni, by Paper Money from Sant-aline. Ims been sold by Mr. Gordon Salway, of North Tnrannki, to Mr. T Hey, of Tasmania. Matorni won three races last season and two this season, the latter being the Robinson nnd County Handicaps at. the Auckland Summer Meeting. The sale was made through Wright, Stephenson and Company, Limited, and the horse will be shipped to Tasmania in about a week.
