HOCKEY VICTORY

INDIAN TEAM'S SUCCESS SCORE OF SEVENTEEN GOALS [by TELEGRAM —PRESS DUNEDIN, Sunday Hockey of a typo entirely unknown to the Dunedin public was seen at Carisbrook yesterday afternoon, when the touring Indian team defeated Otago by 17 goals to 0. Six of these goals came in the first half, when the visitors did not appear to be extending themselves, and they added a further 11 in the second spell. Otago came within scoring range several times, but it had difficulty in finishing off its movements, and found the Indian defence too strong. It was the effortless ease with which the visitors played that attracted the admiration of the crowd of about 10,000. Hard hitting was rarely indulged in, and the long pass was practically absent.

Remarkable stickwork, combined with almost faultless positional play and the short, quick passing movements, gave the Indians their superiority. Although outclassed, the Otago team did not disgrace itself, good work being done by Hev, on the right wing, and Hore and Ward in the halves. Dvan Chand, Rup Sing, Fernandez and Shahbuddin were prominent in the Indian team, whose strength lay in the forwards and halves.

Goals were scored by Dyan Chand (0), Wells (3) Rup Singh (5) and Sliahbndilin (3). The Indians have played 12 matches to date, all of which have been won by wide margins. Thev have scored 173 goals and had only six registered against them.
