THE LATE MRS. McCOMBS

Sir, —The death of Mrs. McCombs will be a great sorrow to the women of New Zealand. To suffer years of unbalanced government before we actually got one woman representative in Parliament, and then to lose her so soon, is indeed hard. New Zealand is surely the most slothful and mismanaged country in the world. Man is fighting against his owii—and the nation's —good when he fights to keep women out of Parliament. Alone he has produced the chaos we call "civilisation." Women alone could no more rule than men have proved they cannot. Together, they are equally balanced, and the result should be harmony. Both sections have to be ruled, therefore it needs the viewpoint of both to make the laws and judge the results. Let us hope that during the coming elections true-hearted women will come forward and offer their vices to help rebuild New Zealand from the wreck it is in, and give our youth a future worth living for. Let us clear away the rotten foundation of patchedup mistakes, and build a clean, firm one on brotherly love and service to humanity. A. Bekxett.
