OTAHUHU FIRE BRIGADE
THE 21 ST ANNIVERSARY The 21st anniversary of the foundation of the Otaliuhu Volunteer Fire Brigade was marked by holding a smoke concert in the Otahuhu Public Hall on Saturday night. The widespread interest in the event was shown in the representative attendance of city, suburban and country brigadesmen. They were welcomed by the Mayor of Otahuhu, Mr. C. R. Petrie, who made special reference to the attendance of representatives from Whakatane and Whangarei. The Mayor said there were undoubtedly strong bonds linking the volunteer firemen of the country when representatives readily travelled 240 miles to honour the anniversary celebrations of another unit. Among the guests were Messrs. T.. Watts, and Osborne. secretary and treasurer respectively, ot the United Fire Brigades' Association. In the course of honouring several toasts congratulations were extended to the Otahuhu brigade on its "coming of age." It was noted that one of the present brigade members, Deputy-Superintendent F. W. Bennett, was one of the original foundation members with 21 years' continuous service.
The toast of "Parliament" was proposed bv Mr. A. Murdoch, and replied to by Mr. W W. Masse.v, M.P. for Hauraki A number of musical items were rendered during the evening. The presentation of honours; was made by Mr. Massey. The following received medals, service bars and certificates:—Superintendent A. P. Eustace, two-years' bar (completing 15 years' service); Fireman PI. J Levy, two-years' bar (nine years): Fireman C. Wilson, two-years' bar (seven years); Fireman W. Rose five years' medal; Fireman W. McConnell, and Fireman J. Shaw, three years' certificates.
