SPORT FOR TO-DAY
RACING AT ELLERSLIE FOOTBALL, HOCKEY AND GOLF, The final day of the Auckland Racing* Club's Winter Meeting at Ellerslie is the principal sporting fixture arranged for to-day. Chief interest will he centred in the Winter Steeplechase and the York Handicap, but there are good fields for all events, and very keen raoing should result. The main Rugby match will be between University and' Otahuhu on the No. 1 ground at Eden Park at 3 p.m., and the contest should be hard-fought from start to finish. The early game between Manukau and College Rifles also should provide some bright football. Some fast and spectacular play should be seen in the game between" Mount Albert and Marist on the No. 1 ground at Carlaw Park at 3 p.m., and, combined with the close struggle anticipated between City and Newton on the same ground at 1.30 p.m., League football enthusiasts are assured of an excellent afternoon's sport. The main Association football fixture at Blandford Park will be between Metro-Col* lege and Ponsonbv. The best hockey of the season should be witnessed at the Remuera grounds this afternoon, when the Devonport Shield competition will be commenced. The games will •be of shorter duration than usual, and two rounds will be completed. The Auckland representative team, which will shortly meetifhe touring All-India side, will play the team with a bye in each round. Golf competitions will be continued at the various links. The bogey competition for the George Cup will be decided fat Middlemore, and the qualifying round for the Ballin Cup will be played by members of the Titirangi Club. The annual harrier road race from Onehunga to Auckland will commence from the Onehunga post office at 3 p.m.j while a number of cycling events have been arranged.
