FUND FOR COLLEGE
Sir Walter Gilbev ami Sir Frederick Hobday, principal and dean respectively of the* Roval Veterinary College, London, sneaking at a reception held at the Pantheon, Oxford Street appealed for support for a nose-hag 200,000,000 farthing endowment fund which is being raised on behalf of the Royal \ eterinary College Hospital. _ . , The fund is receiving the support or the Duke of Gloucester and the Lord Mayor of London. Some 40 veteran war horses will carry special regulation Army nose-bags to collect for the fund. Sir Walter Gilbey said he wanted to make the Koyal Veterinary College Hospital the best-dressed institution of the kind in the world. (Laughter.) liie college had been lamentably supported in the past and bad been a disgrace to the country. Education m veterinary science was absolutely essential to the community. There never was a time when so many children were horse-rid-ing or when so many riding schools had been established. If veterinary science was neglected, what would become of British agriculture and, especially, the breeding industry? Sir Frederick Hobday said tliat an effort was being made to raise £500.000 ivith which to set the college on its feet. At one time some of the walls had to be propped up and parts of the buildings could not be used because they were unsafe. At one period it was decided to close down, but that was averted and the rebuilding was progressing fast. It was hoped eventually to have the best veterinary college in the world.
