DOMINION'S OUTLOOK
VISITOR'S IMPRESSIONS "LAND VALUES TOO HIGH" DAIRY PRODUCE STANDARDS [by telegbAm—press association] WELLINGTON. Tuesday A visitor to Wellington to-day was Mr. D. G. Davidson, of London, who later left with his wife by the Mnunganui for San Francisco, en route for England. Mr. and Mrs. Davidson expressed the opinion that New Zealand is the most beautiful inhabitable country in the world. Mr. Davidson, many years ago, was a resident of tho Dominion, and for 18 years he was assistant inspector of the* Colonial Bank of New Zealand. "When I was here four years ago," he said, "I warned you that your land values were much too high. The Government and owners must attune themselves to a still lower readjustment of land values, rural and urban. Another tiling of concern to your country is the nature of its products. Knowing Argentina as I do, I am inclined to think it is not advisable for New Zealand to go in for beef-raising, as it seems inclined to do, through the discovery of the chilling process. You are too far away from the British market. Argentina can produce wonderful beef and have it in the Smithfield markets in a few days." In regard to butter and cheese, Mr. Davidson said that there should bo no falling off in the improvement of the quality. "You can only afford t; raise the standard," he said, "and there are experts who say that this should not be difficult, particularly in regard to your cheese, which I have been told is not always lip to the highest grade."
