OVERSEAS EMPIRE
LONDON REPRESENTATION WIDER POWERS SUGGESTED LONDON, May 10 "The Silver Jubilee offers a unique opportunity for revising the representation of the Dominions in London," said Lord Strathspey (who was born siL Oaniaru, New Zealand) to a representative of tho Sun-Herald news service. Hitherto the Dominions had not exactly received a fair deal. Britain was inclined to trade more with foreigners at their expense. "1 suggest that the High Commissioners be offered seats in the House ot Lords and that the Dominions be empowered to select a representative to sit. in the House of Commons," said Lord Strathspey. "The Empire representatives would vote on Imperial questions and act as observers when domestic matters were discussed. Straight talks in Parliament from the representatives of the Dominions would help to bring members of the Cabinet face to fa9e with realities, especially ( when foreign commitments in trade or otherwise were discussed."
