THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE BREWERY ISSUES FIRM 11 Levels generally were firm on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, .'although some issues showed weaker tendencies. The turnover was the largest since the resumption of business after Easter. Government loans were kee;til.v sought, particularly the 4 per cent, bonds. However, offers for some of the 4 per cent stocks, which advanced sharply on the previous day, weakened to tho levels of equivalent bond issues. The only issue offered was 1940 4 per cent stock, and after this was taken 2s 6d higher, at <" s 6d. no holders operated. Dealing in banks was confined to cur- ' rent level sales of Commercials and Reserve Banks. Offers were a shade firmer, but sellers weakened in some cases..

South British Insurances, which sold at 995, equal to the record cum dividend price on Thursday, were sought 6d weaker at 98s, but holders remained firm at 100s. Nationals gained Is to sell at 21s 7Jfd.. The principal feature of trading in the other classified sections was a further hardening in New Zealand Breweries, which sold Id better at 53s Id. Dominion Breweries gained 2d to sell at 15s. United, Buildings (Auckland), had sale at 19s 3d, a fall of Is, while Westport Stocktons were fractionally easier in business at Is lOJcl. The contributing issue of Auckland Gas was 3d easier on sale at 20s 6d, and Northern Steams (3ii 6d paid), selling for the first? time since December, were 7d lower at Is 2d; A gain of 3d was registered by Wilsons Cements, which were traded at 35s 3d. An ex dividend sale in Union Oils: was made Is 6d lower at 28s 6d. Farmers' Tradings w-ere transferred Id lower ■ at 7s 4d, while sales at ruling rates were made in Colonial Sugars, Morris Hedstroms.
