NURSEMAID'S INJURY
STRUCK ON KNEE BY CHILD SEQUEL TO SMACKING CLAIM AGAINST EMPLOYER [by TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT] WELLINGTON, Friduy Decision was reserved in the Arbitration Court to-day, when Miss Eileen Covle claimed compensation from Donald M. Campbell, of Hastings, for permanent partial disability of the left leg. Tho claim arose, out of tho action of defendant's young son in striking plaintiff across the knee with a piece of wood after being punished for a misdemeanour. Via infill' claimed that the injury arose out of and in tho course of her employment. The circumstances in which the injury had been received and the degree of disability were agreed upon by tho parties. Plaintiff, giving evidence, said she had been employed as nursemaid by the Campbells for nine months when the incident occurred. The son bad been playing with the fire and she bad smacked him. He had then picked up a piece of wood from the side of thV hearth and struck her across the knee. She bad felt sick and dizzy and had knocked her knee against the hearth. Mr. Leicester, for defendant, withdrew a denial of liability after bearing the evidence of plaintiff and three doctors. The assessment of compensation was argued. Tho .Court reserved decision.
