CONCERT AT AVONDALE

An excellent concert programme was given by pupils of the Convent Schools at the Town Hall, Avondale, on Monday evening. The large audience was very appreciative of the items presented. The infant clnsses gave several action songs in appropriate costumes as black crows, Redskin chiefs, farmers and fairies, and the dancing of the minuet by tiny tots proved a popular number. Songs and dances by the senior pupils included " Grace Darling," with sailor chorus and horn-pipe danced by June Whittam; a football chorus; " Three Little Maids " from " Mikado "; and a splendidly-executed Russian dance. Josephine McGregor's humorous recitations were greatly enjoyed, as was a scene from " King John," by Misses Kemblo, Bryant, Rhodes and Oates. Musical items were given by ail instrumental trio, and the overtures were played by a large string orchestra. A pianoforte duet was well played by Kathleen Floyd and Josephine McGregor, and the rendering of the opening choruses by a choir of girls' voices gave evidence of careful training. An operetta, " Rose of Joy," in which the girls were effectively dressed as sunbeams, concluded an enjoyable entertainment.
