UNEMPLOYED WOMEN
STATEMENT COMBATED DUNEDIN RELIEF CONDITIONS [BY TETIfIGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] DUNEDIN, Wednesday Social workers emphatically deny the statement which was made by a woman member of a Christchurch deputation to the Minister of Employment in advancing the claims of unemployed women to sustenance to the effect that many single girls were being driven on to the streets. In combating the statement social workers said if jobs were not available girls were taken on at unemployment rooms, paid 7s 6d weekly and given a hot meal daily, with morning and afternoon tea. Assistance was given to those in need of clothes, and there was no need for any unemployed girl to want.
