WELLINGTON HEADS
ANOTHER BEACON NEEDED Opinion was unanimous afc the annual meeting of the Wellington Merchant Service Guild that a light or other distinguishing mark should ba placed on Outer Rock. Thirty master mariner!) passed a resolution to the effect that the guild should continue making its best efforts to have this done. It was pointed out that, had there been any form of distinguishing mark on Outer Hock, the tourist liner Franconia would jiot have been forced to remain outside as long as she did on her recent voyage. Mishaps, such as that to the Devon, the Echo, and the Golden Harvest, would not have occurred if a mark* had been provided. Although the harbour authorities planned to floodlight the rock, nothing had been done, while other harbours even more difficult to mark at the heads were adequately lighted.
