SIR E. GOODERHAM DEAD SERVICES IN GREAT WAR ' (Received April 26, 6.45 p.m.) TORONTO* April 25 The death has occurred of Sir Albert E. Gooderham, in his 74th year. He was a distiller, financier and philanthropist. During the war Sir .Albert placed at the disposal of the British Government the distilling plant of Gooderham and Worts, which was converted for the manufacture of acetone, used as a solvent in the production of cordite. The plant produced three-quarters of all the acetone made in the Empire.

The late Sir Albert Edward Gooderham was born- at Toronto on June 2,i 1861. He began his business career in his father's office, where he was made managing director on the death of the former. He. joined the 10th JEtoyal Grenadiers in 1885, and held the rank of Lieaitenant-Colonel in 1907. Chi the 50th anniversary of the Organisation of the regiment he gave a dinner to the members of the Royal Grenadiers at which 1778 officers and men down.

During the Great War he gave up the distilling plant of Gooderham and Worts to the British Government rent free for the manufacture of acetone, and later he established two plants in America. His philanthropic activities included the establishment and equipment of a hospital for officers, an antitoxin farm to the Toronto University, which supplied anti-toxin for the army during the Great War, and an institution for the care of children predisposed to tuberculosis. He also established and equipped a hospital in London for the use of officers. Sir Albert was a director of the Bank of Toronto, a member of the board of governors of the University, and' president of two financial organisations.
