PRESS IN GERMANY

DRASTIC NEW LAW ANTI-NAZI PUBLICATIONS ELIMINATION EXPECTED POWERS OF DISMISSAL By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received April 26, 6.25 p.m.) BERLIN, April 25 Ilerr Ammann, the Nazi's press chief, has -promulgated a law which is expected to eliminate all the Nazi newspapers' opponents and end the embittered struggle which has continued since the Nazis gained power. The new law compels all newspaper publishers to register the names of persons interested in the newspapers and the amount of their shares. Publishers must also provide proof of whether the origin of the interested persons was Aryan as far back as 1800. This is more sweeping than the Aryan test for officials. The law prevents tho publication of newspapers -by joint stock concerns or by co-operative, public, professional or class organisations, although Nazi Party nominees are excluded. This means the disappearance of Roman Catholic newspapers unless they aro exempted by Herr Ammann, who now is press dictator. He is empowered summarily to dismiss editors and employees. The newspapers have been given six months in which to comply with the new edict.
