CRASH INTO POLE

SMALL CAR WRECKED DRIVER IN HOSPITALWith a crash that awakened residents in near by houses, a small sedan motor-car, driven by a visitor to Auckland, Mr. <T. Blandford, aged 22, of Wellington, struck a tramway power polo in Remucra Road, at the top of Portland Road, shortly before two o'clock yesterday morning. The driver suffered head injuries and the polo and the motor-car were extensively damaged. The car struck the polo near the centre of tho radiator, which was forced back so far that the whole engine and bonnet appeared to closed up like a concertina, while tho front axle was bent in a semicircle. The steering wheel was snapped off and the crankcase, gearbox and differential were smashed. No glass was broken.

Tlio power pole was cracked along the centre for 10ft. and was broken through 2£fc. above the ground, but as it did not fall, no lines were brought down. It had to be replaced.

Residents who were aroused by the sound of tho crash found Mr. Blandford conscious. He was attended by Dr. A. MacGregor Grant, and was later admitted to tho Auckland Hospital. His condition is not serious.
