When Albert Stevenson, labourer, of Scholes, pleaded guilty to theft at the Bradford, ' West Riding, Court, he explained that out of the ten shillings a week transitional benefit his mother allowed him one shilling for cigarettes. The Chairman: You have no right to spend one shilling a week, blowing it into the air.

Placing , Stevenson on probation for 12 months, the magistrates made it a condition that he must not smoke during that Eeriod.
