LABOUR CONFERENCE

VISITOR FROM OVERSEAS A visitor from Great Britain, Mr. G. Ellis, was introduced to the conference in Wellington of the New Zealand Labour Party by the president, Mr. T. Armstrong, M.P. Mr. Ellis is a member of the Tottenham Labour Party, and has been a member of the Co-operative Wholesale Society for 30 years and a member of the British Labour Party for 42 years. His wife was a member of the Tottenham Borough Council, where, at the last election, Labour achieved a majority of 27 out of a total of 33 seats.

Mr. Ellis brought fraternal greetings from the movement in England, and expressed his appreciation of the hospitality and comradeship extended to him during his stay in New Zealand. He briefly traversed the growth of the movement in Tottenham, stating that from a membership of 60 members just over six years ago, they had now a membership of more than 1000 and a majority on most of the local bodies.
