[BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] GISBORNE, Friday The annual report of the chairman of the Cook County Council, Mr. C. Matthews, tabled at to-day's meeting of the council, states that the financial position had further improved, showing that the optimistic outlook adopted by the council 12 months ago was justified. Of the amount of rates struck, £36,824, the sum of £32,528 had been collected. As £B3l was allowed as discount for *prompfc payment, there was therefore only £3405. or 9.409 per cent, outstanding. In addition, £7119 was collected from rates outstanding for previous years. At the close of the financial .year the amount of all rates outstanding was £10,230, against £14,114 at March 31, 1934.
