WOMEN'S INSTITUTES
Matiriri. —The role call was a cheap meatless dish, and many good recipes were given in. Mrs. Dally was the prizewinner in a competition for something made from a sugar sack. A sub-commit-tee was set up to make arrangements in connection with a display at the Waikato Winter Show. A demonstration of passe-partout was given and a debate held.
Swanson. —A social gathering and display of work done by members was held by the institute recently. Miss E. Taylor and Miss Knox were winners of competitions. Items were given by Mrs. G. Taylor, Mrs. Vaile and Mrs. W. Taylor, and Mr. Knipe assisted with the dance music.
Glenbrook. —The new president, Mrs. McGrystal, presided at a recent meeting. Demonstrations on decorating cork table mats with wooden beads and decorating glass dishes with tinsel paper were given by Mrs. S. Weststall. The trading stall did good business, and wares from disabled soldiers were sold. Kaihu. —Mrs. Berry presided over a good attendance at the annual meeting. The following officers were elected: — President, Mrs. Stenson; hon. secretary, Mrs. A. G. Davis; treasurer, Mrs. Weight. Hunua. —The roll call was on suggestions for the second birthday. Mrs. Creagh read a lecture " A Marriage in Morocco," and Mrs. Legge demonstrated passe-partout work. Officers elected were: —President, Mrs. G. Redman; secretary, Mrs. R. Legge; treasurer, Mrs. W. Redman. Mangonui.—At the annual meeting, the election of officers resulted: —Mrs. W. A. Wrathall, president (re-elected); Mrs. R. T. Wrathall, secretary (reelected). The competition was the best pot of appie jelly. Winners the points competition were: —Mrs. E. I. Wilson, 1; Mrs. 11. T. Wrathall, 2. Port Fitzroy.—Mrs. W. Russell gave an interesting talk on her life in the Pacific Islands. Winners of the competition were Miss Day and Miss Nanki veil.
Albany.—Three new members were welcomed to the institute. Remits for the forthcoming conference were discussed. Mrs. Coates presented the points prizes to Mesdames Hunt and Richards. Mrs. F. G. G. Broad, of Campbell's Bay, gave a talk on the Gilbert and Sullivan operas with items to illustrate her remarks.
