BAY OF PLENTY UNION RANFURLY SHIELD CHALLENGE [from ouk own correspondent] TAURANGA, Saturday The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union held at WhakatanePatron, Hon. C. E. Macmillan; vice-patron, Mr. G, S. Moody; president; Mr. J. A. Guinness; vicepresidents, Messrs. K. J. Rennie (Tauranga), J. A. Alexander (Te Puke), F. J. Bunt (Rangitaiki), R. Boon (Whakatane), G. S. Moody (Opotiki), T. Anderson (Rotorua) and presidents of the Apanui and Galatea Unions; hon. secretary and treasurei, Mr. M. Simmonds (Taui'anga); hon. auditor, J. A. Ruddy; ton. solicitor, Mr. H. O. Cooney; selectors, Messrs. Peebles, Burrett, Anderson, Bunt, Riggir; executive committee, the president, secretary, Messrs. H. S. Riggir, J A. Alexander; delegates to annual conference of New Zealand Union, Messrs. J. A. Guinness, C. T. McFarlane, N. Parata (resident). The application of the Taupo Union for reafliliation was accepted. Messrs. S. S. Dean and T. Fletcher, of the management committee of the New Zealand Union, were nominated as delegates to the Imperial Conference. It was decided that a grant, be requested from the New Zealand Union for a proposed tour to North Auckland, and that Poverty Bay be notified that the Bay of Plenty Union could not send a representative team to its district this year. A grant of £3 3s was made to the Bay of Plenty Referees' Association and, should funds permit, an increase to £5 5s will be made. The matter of administration of Maori football was left in the hands of the delegates to place before the New Zealand Union. The draw for the Te Hurunui-Apanui Shield resulted as followsßotorua vl Apanui, Te Puke v. Tauranga, Whakatane v. Opotiki. July 6 was fixed as the date for the first game for the shield challenges. It was resolved that all inter-union games played on June 3 be taken as matches for the Parata Cup competition. It was decided to forward a challenge for the Ranfurly Shield. HOWICK CLUB'S OFFICERS The Howick Rugby Football Club has started practice, and, by arrangement with .the'Whitford Club, has joined forces for the season, and oxpects to be able to place two good teams on tile field. The officers appointed for the season were Patron, Mr. J. Crawford; president, Mr. J. N. Clarke; club captain, Mr. R. A. Bell; secretary, Mr. J. B. Whitg (Howick); assistant-secretary. Mr. C. Yeats (Whitford); selectors, Messrs. J. N. Clarke, J. Goodacre, L. B. White; 'joach, Mr. J. Goodacre. CONTESTS IN CHRISTCHURCH [by telegraph—press association] CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday In Rugby matches played here yesterday Christchurch beat Pirates (Dunedin) by 14 points to 11, Chilstchurch Old Boys beat Timaru Old Boys by 16 points to 11, and Southern (Dunedin) beat Albion by 18 points to 0.
