AMATEUR ATHLETICS
PIAKO SCHOOLS' SPORTS [from our own correspondent] TE AROHA, Sunday Keen contests, with exciting finishes, characterised the fifth annual meeting of the Piako Central Combined Country Schools' Sport 9 Association held at Waitoa, when 430 children, comprising 1030 entries, participated in the 08 events. Ideal weather conditions prevailed, and there was a large attendance of parents and friends. The programme was a full one, and the fact that there were no hitches reflects great credit on the officials. Representatives from the Kereone, Ngarua, Springdale, Tatuanui, Te Puninga and Waitoa Schools competed, the points cup being won by Waitoa. The points were:— Waitoa, G3i; Ngarua, 50$: Kereone, 38; Springdale, 331. Te Puninga, 24i; Tatuanui, 24. Waitoa was also successful in winning the Johnson Cup for the field events, while the girls' relay, boys' relay and the overhead ball cups were won by Te Puninga, Kereone" and Springdale respectively.
