OWHANGO CLUB'S MEETING WOOD-CHOPPING A FEATURE VETERAN COMPETITOR'S WIN [from our own correspondent] TAUMARUXUI. Saturday The . Owhango Sports Club's 15th annual 'meeting was held to-day in line weather. There was a record attendance and an entry of 110 axemen for the chopping events, including four Australians. The veteran, J. E. Richardson, of Te Akau, won the New Zealand 18in. kaiwaka championship chop. The winner, who is over 50 years of age, has chopped in competitions for 32 years. Just on 150 young men are encampe;!. and the programme has been, unaffected by the weather. The Rev. A. M. Elliffe. camp father, Mr. H. W. Shove, camp chairman, and the Rev. W. Bower Black, programme convener, are the officers responsible for the smooth running of the camp.' Visitors to camp included Mr. D. M. Rae, principal of the Training College, who spoke on "Youth Overseas," and the Hon. Miles Phillemore, who gave impressions on the Oxford group movement. An exceptionally good camp concert was organised by Mr. J. Highland on Saturday evening.
