LABOUR CALL STAND
NON-UNION WATERSIDERS Permission to erect a call stand for labour at the eastern end of the Union Steam Ship Company's gear store on the Quay Street landings was sought from the Auckland Harbour Board bv the Non-Union Waterside Workers' Association, in a letter received by the board yesterday. No objection to the proposal was seen by the traffic manager, provided the organisation submitted a plan for approval and undertook to remove the stand when directed to do so. When the chairman, Mr. T. B. Clay, moved that permission according to the conditions mentioned shoilld be granted, Mr. J. Sayegh asked whether there would be any conflict of purpose with the constituted waterside workers' organisation Tt was pointed out that the members of the non-union organisation were employed only when there were no members of the constituted union available, and permission was granted.
