SPEEDING ADMITTED

PROSECUTION OF DOCTOR In the Onehunga Police Court yesterday I)r. Ceeil Pittar (Mr. T. N. Hoinulen) admitted having driven his car at an excessive speed on the main road between Otahuhu and Penrose on the afternoon of Saturday, March 23. A traffic inspector for the Manuka 11 County Council gave evidence that the speed of the doctor's car was too fast for. it to he overtaken by witness' car, which, he said, was travelling at 60 miles an hour. He estimated-the speed of the doctor's car at 64 miles an hour. Mr. Holmden explained that Dr. Pittar, while playing golf at Otahuhu, had received an urgent call to attend a patient at Epsom, and was so anxious to lose no time that he did not wait to change his golfing attire. In answer to the Bench, the traffic inspector said that there was a considerable amount of traffic on the road at the time. The justices pointed out that traffic on this particular road was usually in a congested state, and that the pace travelled at by Dr. Pittar was not only highly dangerous to others, but also to himself, and out of all proportion to actual necessity. Defendant was fined £2 and costs.
