BUTTER PRICES DECREASE VEGETABLE SUPPLIES IMPROVE With the exception of a decrease of Id a pound in the price of both first and second grade butter, there has been little alteration in the values of foodstuffs during the past "week. First grade butter is now selling at Is a pound and second grade at lOd. Supplies of vegetables are improving and the prices of cabbage and cauliflower show a decrease of 2d, both selling at from 6d to Is each. Ihe passion fruit season has nearly finished and values are higher. Good quality bananas are still scarce but there has been no change in prices. Mushrooms are still fairly plentiful. Flounder and hapuka are still scarce but fish rates remain unchanged. There is no variation in the price of meat, eggs, bacon and ham. EGGS Duck, Is lOd a dozen: hen, first grade, 2s COTTON AND WOOLLENS BIG GERMAN PURCHASES LONDON, March 27 The Lille correspondent of the Daily Mail says Germany continues her heavy purchase of woollen and cotton goods in the industrial areas of Northern France. She is also buying raw materials at almost any price. She is said to have bought 5000 tons in the past three days at far above the normal price, one afternoon paying 5d a lb. above the morning offer.
