SUICIDE IN GAOL
INQUEST, ON DECEASED REMORSE FOR MISDEEDS SYDNEY, March 21 An inquest was held to-day into the death of George Henry Davis, aged 46, a clerk, who was found hanging in Long Bay gaol last Friday. He was formerly employed by the Putaruru Pine and Pulp Company (N.Z.). Limited, and was on remand, charced with the theft of £3. The police stated that on his release from Bathurst gaol last year detectives obtained employment for Davis with a city firm, and he promised to reform. The firm was very pleased with his work, but subsequently he commenced to rob his employers and was arrested. The jury recorded a verdict of suicide with no blame attachable to the gaol officials. The coroner said that Davis was probably overcome by remorse.
