ELLERSLIE AFFAIRS
FORMATION OF SIDE ROADS A suggestion that the Ellerslie Town Board should enter upon a scheme for permanently sealing all its side roads was considered by the board last night. Mr. A. H. Mclntyre said the board was spending considerable moneys each year in maintaining side streets" Many of these were not permanently formed and he suggested that the board should consider adopting a scheme of completing at least one street each year out of revenue. Mr. S. Somerfield said he thought the cost of permanent formation would be prohibitive. . After discussion it was decided to instruct the town clerk to submit estimates of the cost of the various works. It was agreed to support the pro•posal of the Birkenhead Borough Council that a system of reciprocal old age pensions should be established between Great Britain and New Zealand. It was suggested that the Prime Minister, the life. Hon. G. W. Forbes, should be requested to bring the matter before the British Government during his forthcoming visit to England.
