MANY DISTRICT MEETINGS j Katikati. —One new member was en-1 rolled. The roll call was " Something | useful to know." The president, Mrs. Stenhouso, gave a travel talk. A demonstration of papier mache work was given. The competition, for a pot of plum jam, was won by Mrs. Itudd. Papamoa. —Items, comprising songs and a humorous reading followed by a competition, were given. Basket-mak-ing was demonstrated by one of the members. In a competition of miscellaneous articles the first prize was awarded for a small tray; in the points competition an article made from New Zealand wool, in the form of a hand-knitted cardigan, was first and a baby's petticoat second. In the thrift section a baby's smocked and embroidered frock made from a flourbag was first and a fruit basket of papier mache second. Members helped with the industrial section at the Te Puke Agricultural and Pastoral Show. Pongakawa Valley.—At the annual meeting Mrs. Delves was re-elected president. Two delegates were selected for the council meeting in Tauranga on April 4. Mrs. McNaughton gave an address on the aims and objects of the institute. She also congratulated the members on the progress made in the first year. Mrs. Don won the points trophy for the year. Mesdames Morgan and Hanlon made the social hour very enjoyable by contributing musical items. Tauranga.—Mrs. Hickey presided over a fair number of members and visitors, including Mrs. Allen, president of the Tirau Women's Institute. Mrs. Avild, a visitor from Kerome, near Morrinsville, sang, as did Miss Hermia Harrison. Miss Betty Phillips played two pianoforte solos. A motto competition was held. Mrs. McConnell, a visitor from Nairobi, British East Africa, gave a talk on " Life as lived by the women in Nairobi." Omanawa. —A meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Taylor. Mrs. Malcolm presided. The roll call was a limerick. The competition was for an article out of a piece of material not costing more than Is. Mrs. Malcolm was.the successful competitor. A short demonstration of glove-making was given. Pukehina.—Letters were read from Mrs. Cameron, sen., who has reached her home in Scotland after her trip to New Zealand. Mrs. Cameron sent two beautiful handkerchiefs to be given as prizes for competitions. IVlombers brought articles for the institute exhibit'at the Te Puke Show. Tho roll call was suggestions for improving the institute. The hostesses were Mrs. Evans, Miss Flinn and Mrs. Pattie. Te Puke. —Several articles suitable for inclusion in the institute exhibit at the Agricultural and Pastoral bbow were brought forward. Miss Kerr entertained with two songs and was presented with a Women's Institute calendar. Paengaroa.—There was a large attendance at ihe first meeting for the new rear. Members were enthusiastic in their preparations for exhibits for the Agricultural and Pastoral Show in le Puke, many articles of thrift and handcraft being displayed. of the potato-growing competition were on hand. There was also a word competition. , _ , -. Kaipaki.—Madame Burtyl gave an address on home dressmaking and showed tho members how to cut out a lady's dress, child's dress .land a princess petticoat from scientific measurements. Some beautiful articles were shown in the arts and crafts competition. Tho roll call was " Have you tried?" A delegate was elected to attend the annual council meeting. Nawton-Botokauri.—A discussion on courts at tho winter show took place and conveners were appointed. It was decided to assist the Beautifying Society at the free fair and an annual picnic was arranged. Competitions were for Vbuttered scones, a mystery parcel and millinery. The roll call was for uses of borax. , , , Rangiriri.—New officers were elected.
