I lie tracks, have been in good order lately and all the horses mentioned are in excellent condition. Aussie Ra looks fitter than he has ever clone. He is engaged in the seven-furlongs hack race on Saturday, and, although the dis.ance may be a little ehort for him. he is not without prospeots. It was intended to ><tart Glen\ ane in the Thompson Handicap, but. owing to difficulty in obtaining the services of a suitable rider, he was not accepted for. He will start on the second day of the meeting. He has gone on in the right way since Opunake and this morning was not extended to run five furlongs on the outside of the course Droper in 1.7 2-5. Refresher will bo making hie reappearance after a long spell. He has been displaying dash in hia work lately, but will probably need a race or two before being seen at his beat. Tahurangi has also been working nicely, but ho doeß not require a great deal of galloping. His second to Monanui at Opunake, was a good effort and he should prove capable of making a good showing among the hack milero The latest addition to H. Dulieu's team :3 The Tiger, who has just come in after a short spell.- He was formerly raced on lease by G. A. Richards, of Hawera, but in future will carry the colours of his owners, Messrs. GRACE McELWYN'S SPEED MILE RECORD AT TIMARU "When tho Auckland-owned filly Grace McElwyn won the Fairlie Handicap one mile, in 2.11 nt Tiniaru on Saturday she established a three-year-old record foj: the distance, and considering that tho course is not as fast as that at Addington, it repreBented a vers* fine effort. Grace McElwyn is by Jack Potts from Jean McElwyn and in point of conformation and style of proingr resembles her dam. Jean McElwyn wns only a pony. and. although not a true stayer, she could win at two miles if she had the race run to suit her. Like Grace McElwyn. she was trained by It B. Berry and he would always endeavour to keep her in just behind tho leaders until the last furlong, when phe would make one very fast dash for the winning post. She was a brilliant sprinter, with a mile record of 2.8, and her daughter gives promise of improving upon those figures. Mf. ,D. R. Revell of Auckland, was present to see the filly race an<) her win must have brought back happy recollections of many victories scored by .her dam.
